Wellington Meridian Building

Ravenscroft New Zealand – Proud to have played a part in the first NABERS New Zealand 5+ Star rated Building.

Wellington's waterfront Meridian Energy building has achieved a NABERSNZ 5.5 star base building rating out of a potential 6. This is the highest awarded so far under the 6 star scheme launched earlier this year by EECA Business in collaboration with the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC). The basis of the scheme is to measure and rate the energy performance of office buildings in New Zealand. It is based on the successful National Australian Building Environmental Rating System (NABERS).

The building is owned by DNZ Property Fund. The Meridian Energy Building's sustainability features include a double skinned facade, exposed thermal mass, automated window opening, automated external louvers and internal blinds to control solar gain and glare, daylight controlled lighting, solar hot water, and indoor Airconditioning supplied via Halton CBC Active Chilled Beams from Ravenscroft New Zealand.

The Halton CBC Active Chilled Beam features include:

  • Combined cooling, heating, and supply with a flush installation within a suspended ceiling.
  • Well suited for spaces with high cooling loads and low humidity load.
  • Ideal solution for applications where high quality environmental conditions and individual room control are appreciated.
  • Typical applications: office rooms, landscape offices, team rooms, patient care rooms, etc.
  • Enhanced life-cycle performance with low air and water flow rates.
  • Rapid adjustment of operation in situations of change without the need to change or plug nozzles.
  • Ravenscroft New Zealand supplied 123 Halton CBC Active Chilled Beams for this landmark project.

Aside from its ground-breaking design, the Meridian building went through a process of fine-tuning it's systems over a period of two years to make sure it really works for its occupants. It is the perfect balance of being designed sustainably and also being well run and maintained. Good commissioning, tuning and attention to energy management have helped the building improve its energy use.

The NABERSNZ certified rating, carried out by Ben Masters of BECA and Lance Jimmieson of Jackson Engineering Advisors, showed that the building uses just 34 kilowatt hours of energy per square meter a year.

Ravenscroft New Zealand is proud to have played a part in this achievement and stand ready to assist in future sustainable buildings projects. Give us a call to discuss your requirements.
